Delicious food and drinks are irresistible, but making them look appetizing in photos is a different challenge. Food photographers rely on specialized skills and tools to capture mouth-watering images. We've all seen restaurant posts where the food looks unappealing, but it's often not the chef's fault—the dish may taste amazing. Great food photography requires styling, lighting, and the right angle. Collaborating with clients is key to determining whether a professional stylist is needed, if the chef can handle it, and whether the shoot should take place on location or in the studio.
The food and drink category includes a wide range of clients, even those who don’t directly sell food. I've worked with family-owned restaurants, bakers, farmers in Community Supported Agriculture, boba tea makers, pesto and cheese producers, chocolate companies, wholesale food distributors, wine clubs, and ad agencies. Additionally, I’ve shot for packaging companies and product designers showcasing food in their products, as the food still needs to look appealing to the consumer.
